Good News!!!

Good News!!!

I had what was hopefully my LAST visit to the orthopedic yesterday and received very good news! First of all, for those who don’t know, my MRI results came back last week and showed that I have a bone bruise on my cuboid and tendinitis on the peroneus brevis. A bone bruise is a stress reaction–it came be caused by sudden trauma (ie: rolling my ankle) or by repetitive stress over time (ie: landing on my foot the wrong way)….

Tri Talk Tuesday: Prepping for OWS

Tri Talk Tuesday: Prepping for OWS

I’m starting my first ever “Tri Talk Tuesday”! This week and next, I’ll be prepping for my first OWS (open water swim) of the season! Last year was my first year as a triathlete, and let’s just say my first OWS ever did NOT go well. Upon reading several fellow swimmer’s blogs, I discovered that I wasn’t alone in my open water swimming anxiety! I won’t completely rehash the whole horrible ordeal, but basically my chest felt like there…

Tough Decisions

Tough Decisions

Several months ago when I planned my race schedule for the year, I had pretty ambitious goals. I signed up to do 6 races in the spring and summer–three 50K’s, one 50-miler, one half Ironman and one 6-day stage race. Plus I planned to pace a friend for the last 30 miles of the VT100. So that’s essentially 7 big events in the course of 5 months. To put it in perspective, I usually run 3 or 4 big…

Weekly Training Recap 04/27/14

My recovery will be slow, and it could be up to three…

A Day In My Shoes

A Day In My Shoes

Shut Up and Run (one of my favorite bloggers) did a post yesterday called “A Day in the Life of Me”, and I liked it, so I decided to do my own version. 🙂 My days are all pretty much the same, with some variety as to what I do in the afternoons for a workout and whether I do something profitable in the evening or just watch TV. 🙂 So here’s a glimpse of my day yesterday: 6:30 a.m….

Muscle Soreness: When To Push Through The Pain

Muscle Soreness: When To Push Through The Pain

Those of you who read my blog post on Tuesday know that I had an epic day of household chores and spent three hours weeding my gardens. I am not yet in “weeding shape”, so I woke up Tuesday feeling VERY sore in the hamstrings and back. Monday was my day off of training, but unfortunately I forgot how hard weeding is on your body. And since I am now in the “build phase” of my triathlon training, so…

Patience, Peace and Happiness

Patience, Peace and Happiness

As I was biking home from work one day this week, I did some serious thinking about what kind of an impact this long-term injury is having on my life. Obviously my “new normal” is very different from what I am used to and from what I would prefer it to be, but just because it is different doesn’t mean it has to be bad. I asked myself what I needed to do in order to purposefully seek to make…
