Racing Schedule

Racing Schedule

This summer/fall is going to be very busy for John and I as I attempt to race 4 triathlons and 1 marathon. Here is my 2013 Racing Schedule: On May 11th I am going to do an Olympic triathlon called the Muncie May Triathlon. This consists of a 1500-meter swim (two 750 meter loops), a 26-mile bike ride (two 13 mile loops), and finally a 10k run (about 6.2 miles). On June 15th I am going to do a 1/3 Ironman…

Shin Splints

Shin Splints

I am writing this post at the request of one of my sister’s friends who is training for her first half marathon and, as a result, is struggling with shin splints. She needs a little moral support, so this is to let her know that she’s not alone. In fact, she’s far from it. Shin splints are extremely common among new runners or runners increasing their mileage, which is exactly what happened to me, first as a new runner and…

Speed Workout on the Trail

Speed Workout on the Trail

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done a speed workout since I was tapering for a couple weeks before our 50K and then sabbatical-ing for a week afterwards, so I decided this week it was time to get serious again! The weather is really nice now though, so I couldn’t bear the thought of using the treadmill for my workout, and we don’t have a track nearby, so I had to get creative. This is what I came up…

Injured!

Injured!

Well, it looks like I’m officially injured! This being only my second real injury, I’m kind of disappointed that it happened now-just weeks before my first race. But I’m confident that I will recover in time for my important races in late summer. About a week and a half ago, I decided to try and do my long run on a Friday afternoon because my Saturday was going to be really busy. I felt great that day-just a little tired and stiff…

My Sabbatical and a Discount Code!

My Sabbatical and a Discount Code!

Most runners hate taking time off from running, but I have to admit, as long as I have something else to occupy my time, I actually really enjoy a little sabbatical every now and then. And that’s what I’ve been doing all week: sabbatical-ing. Peter and I ran the Traprock 50K last Saturday, so I decided to take a well-deserved rest and focus on some of the other things that I enjoy doing. Since I typically spend upwards of…
